Vano Machavariani: Pompeo’s visit as a signal to regional players was very important

It is very interesting that as a result of the visit, Pompeo did not give a press conference and did not even go out to journalists. For eight years, our government has not had a single initiative to expand cooperation with the United States. And to be honest, I really hope that Pompeo had such an initiative, it just hasn’t been voiced yet.

As for the situation in the region, since the beginning of hostilities in Karabakh, we have asked each other – Baku calls to Ankara, Yerevan to Moscow, and to whom they call from Tbilisi. They didn’t call anywhere from Tbilisi, but they called us from Washington. Of course, this visit will not remain out of Moscow’s attention, especially since their relations with Georgia are in a test mode. Now the question of the railway through Abkhazia has been raised, it was not at all by chance raised. Moscow is trying to make the most of the new situation in the region. In this regard, Pompeo’s visit as a certain signal to regional players was very important.
